SSG Lee Heckenlaible

We were able to talk with SSG Lee Heckenlaible this morning via Skype.  Earlier this year we sent letters and a care packages to some deployed soldiers and he was one of them.  He is a graduate of Menno High School class of 2001.  He told us a lot about himself and then the students were able to introduce themselves.  He knew several of the students' parents because he grew up in Menno. Lee is a Chaplain's Assistant with the military and is currently serving on his 3rd deployment. He was able to tell us about his military job, his civilian job, his family, and then gave us a short tour of his living quarters. Later we were able to go check out the school athletic records in order to see Lee's name for the record in Cross Country.

Fun Fact: Lee and Mrs. Huber met on the way to Basic Training.  They both went to Ft. Jackson, South Carolina at the same time.  They were not in the same company, but did see each other every so often.

  1. I love this idea of using Skype to talk to different people around the world, but still connect it to your students. I like your font, but it could become hard to read after looking at it for awhile. I think it would be a great font for headings or lists.
